We are excited to introduce Ken Hensley, our candidate to become the next Senior Pastor of Calvary Church. Ken brings with him a passion for preaching, discipleship, and equipping the church for God’s mission. Important UPDates

Search Update

  • At the end of May, the Search Committee received a final list of candidates from our consultant, NL Moore.
  • Over the first two weeks of June each candidate met with the Search Committee twice. 
  • The list of candidates was narrowed to three finalists. 
  • Pastor Rich Schoenert and Millard Erickson conducted theological interviews with each finalist. 
  • Each of the finalists completed an onsite visit. 
  • The Search Committee has a recommendation of a final candidate, Ken Hensley. 
  • A Special Business Meeting will be held on Sunday, September 14 / 1:30pm at the White Bear Campus to vote on calling Ken Hensley as the next Senior Pastor of Calvary Church.

Prayer is not just a part but the cornerstone of our search for a new Senior Pastor at Calvary Church. We believe that seeking God's guidance through prayer is essential in discerning His will and finding the right person to lead our congregation. We invite everyone to join us in fervent prayer, recognizing the critical roles that different groups play in this process. 

  1. Senior Pastor Search Committee: Pray for the team as they work together, and ask God to guide this process.

  2. Elder Board: Lift up the Elder Board in prayer, asking for spiritual insight and clarity as they provide oversight and leadership in the Senior Pastor search. Pray for their discernment in making decisions that align with God's will for Calvary Church.

  3. Church Staff & Interim Pastor: Pray for strength, wisdom, and encouragement for our dedicated church staff and Interim Senior Pastor, Rich Schoenert, who continue to serve and support our attendees during this transitional period. Ask God to bless their efforts and grant them peace as they carry out their responsibilities with excellence and grace.

  4. Prayer Room Gathering. Attend the monthly Prayer Room gathering on the first Wednesday of each month to pray with others from Calvary Church. The Prayer Room schedule is Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8pm rotating campuses each month. See EVENTS for upcoming dates.

WHO IS NL MOORE?

The Elder Board has signed a contract with NL Moore to assist us in the Senior Pastor search. They are a nationally-known consulting group that specializes in guiding churches through leadership transitions.

WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE FOCUS GROUP & SURVEY FEEDBACK?

NL Moore will compile the Focus Group feedback and survey results to create a candidate profile as we search for a Senior Pastor to lead Calvary Church.

WILL ANY OF THE SURVEY OR FOCUS GROUP RESULTS BE SHARED WITH US?

Yes, an Executive Summary document has been shared with the congregation. 

WILL WE HAVE AN INTENTIONAL INTERIM PASTOR?

We are pleased to share that Rev. Dr. Richard Schoenert accepted our invitation to serve as Calvary’s Intentional Interim Senior Pastor. He began preaching on Sunday, June 16, 2024. 

HOW LONG WILL THE INTENTIONAL INTERIM LAST?

The general expectation is 12-18 months from when the search team is formed with a high expectation of church-wide prayer and participation.

The search team was selected by the Elder Board in January of 2025 and the members are:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEARCH FOR A NEW SENIOR PASTOR?

This typically happens in 12-18 months from when the search team is formed. We know that we are in pursuit of a strategic leader that God has already prepared for us. We don’t know God’s timing, but we trust that He has many intentional things in store for us during this in-between time.

WHAT PARTS OF THIS DECISION ARE CHURCH MEMBERS ABLE TO VOTE ON?

Per our church constitution, there will be a required vote of the membership for the hire of a Senior Pastor.
