The Lord’s Delight Traditional
Series: Major Lessons from the Minor Prophets
Summary
Regarding the theme of the book of Zephaniah, Old Testament scholar, Richard Hess, says"What we hope for or fear tomorrow changes who we are today" (NIVBTSB, 1619). These are fitting words that capture the thrust of this prophetic book. Zephaniah prophesied during the reign of Josiah, king of Judah. During his ministry, he warned the people of God's impending judgment AND he encouraged the people that God would restore a remnant (Zephaniah 3:12-13). Zephaniah helps us to see that we need to have a healthy understanding of God's judgment and the reality that he "delights" in his people (Zephaniah 3:17).
