The Already and Not-Yet King
Series: Crossroads
Summary
How do we respond to God’s direction in our lives? With submission like David’s patient obedience, with opposition like Abner’s active defiance, or with autonomy like the people of Jabesh’s self-reliance (Num. 32). When Saul rescued Jabesh (1 Sam. 11) and David was anointed ruler over Judah—both were already and not-yet kings. Their rule was inaugurated but not consummated. In a much more profound way, Jesus is our already and not-yet king—Lord of all! …and yet his rule has not yet fully affected nor been accepted by everyone. And even in the lives of believers, we keep strongholds from Christ’s kingship. How have you openly opposed or quietly sought autonomy from God’s rule? In what areas have you not yet made Christ the King over your life?
